(Concert canceled) Trio Spilliaert – Violin, Cello, Piano – Franck – Ravel
dimanche 22 juin 16 h 00 min 17 h 15 min
You have already heard the superb ensemble, the Trio Spilliaert, and were very enthusiastic about their return with a new repertoire!
That moment will come on Sunday, June 22, at 4 PM at Salon Bugrane.
This time, the Trio Spilliaert presents two masterful works:
- The First Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano, also known as the Concertant Trio in F-sharp minor, by César Franck (published in 1843).
- The Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano by Maurice Ravel (written in 1914).
Each of these works is innovative in its own way:
At just 18 years old, César Franck employed, for the first time, the cyclic form—where the same themes recur throughout the three movements—a technique that would become his signature. This highly virtuosic Trio, particularly for the piano, was dedicated to the King of the Belgians, Leopold I.
Maurice Ravel structured his Trio in four movements, following a classical tradition, yet introducing his own rhythmic and harmonic innovations. His influences range from Basque traditions, Asia, French precision, and the harmonies of his time. It is truly a major work of the 20th century.
